Composer Joseph Koo Ka-fai

作曲家顾家辉. 1931年出生，2023年1月3日逝世于加拿大温哥华。

Composer Koo Ka-fai (in Mandarin is Gu Jia Hui) was born Guanzhou, China, in the year 1931 and dead recently on the third of January, 2023 in Vancouver, Canada. He is considered to be the Godfather of the Hong Kong Music Industry and his musical tunes have been popular over many years. It was also fortunate that he had the co-operation of the famous lyric writer, James Wong Jim (黃霑）and together they created many memorable theme songs for both the Cantonese films and the Cantonese dramas.

顾家辉被认为是香港音乐界的教父，他的音乐曲调多年来一直广受欢迎。亦有幸得到著名词曲作家黄沾的合作，共同为多部粤语电影及粤剧创作歌曲。

Born into a scholarly family, he was the son of a painter and an antique valuer and is a younger brother of Koo Mei, the famous Chinese singer and actress in the 1950s and 1960s. He learned to play the piano at a young age with a Pilipino musician and had worded as a pianist and band leader at several night clubs in Hong Kong.

出身书香门第，父亲是画家和古董估价师，是50、60年代华语歌星古美的弟弟。他年轻时跟随一位菲律宾音乐家学习弹钢琴，并曾在香港多家夜总会担任钢琴师和乐队指挥。

In the early 1960’s he was sponsored by Sir Run Run Shaw to attend the Berklee College of Music and upon his graduation, he worked for both the Shaw Brothers and the Golden Harvest Movie Studios. In 1073, Koo joined TVB Hong Kong as the Director of Music until mid 1990’s when he immigrated to Canada. From Canada, he continued to work remotely for TVB to produce many famous musical tunes where lyricist Wong Jim cooperated to get those famous lines in the lyrics that made the theme songs popular and memorable.

1960年代初期，他受邵逸夫爵士资助进入伯克利音乐学院就读，毕业后先后在邵氏兄弟和嘉禾电影制片厂工作。 1073年加入香港无线电视担任音乐总监，直至1990年代中期移居加拿大。在加拿大，他继续远程工作，为TVB制作了多首著名的音乐曲目，并与作词人王健合作，将那些著名的台词放入歌词中，使主题曲广为流传，令人回味无穷。
