A Day at Marina Bay

Not quite a full day, I must admit. But, some six hours and a bit, including traveling time. We started at Orchard MRT (Mass Rapid Transport Train Station) and our experience with the MRT’s yellow circle line was confusing, to say the least. Take a closer look at the yellow circle line and the red North/South line. Can you see Orchard Station along the red line? Yes, that was my starting point. To go to Marina Bay, therefore, we have to travel to Dhoby Ghaut and to change to the circle yellow line in order to reach […]

Food Outlets in Sydney

When compared to food outlets in Auckland, there are two aspects that we find annoying in food outlets in Sydney. The first is the fact that the food outlets are not rated for hygiene standards. The second is that not all food outlets have toilets within their premises. During our recent stay in Sydney, we have visited many Chinese and Asian food outlets and we can recommend the following places as worthwhile restaurants to have your meals: 在我们最近在悉尼逗留期间,我们去了许多中国和亚洲的食品店,我们现在可以推荐以下地方作为值得光顾的餐馆: (1) Cantonese Style Dim Sim or Yam Cha: 广式点心或饮茶: Dim Sum (in Hong Kong) or Dim Sim, or Yam Cha: https://youtu.be/q-ltG6v6vAw […]

Cockatoo Island, Sydney

“Where shall we go today?” I asked. “Cockatoo Island,” came the answer from my eleven-year old grandson. So, the three of us, Lin, I and he set off on our way, first to Circular Quay by train and then off to Cockatoo Island on a ferry from Pier 5. “我们今天要去哪里?”我问。 “鹦鹉岛”来自我十一岁的孙子的答案。所以,我们三个人 - 我的妻子,我和孙子就出发,首先乘火车去环形码头,然后乘坐5号码头的渡轮前往鹦鹉岛。 On the ferry, there were two groups of kindergarten kids, all chattering with excitement. They were looked after by teachers and parent-helpers. I began to feel excited too. I was expecting some sort of Disneyland or Fantasy World ahead of us. “I shall then be doing the […]

The family members asked me to wait for them in front of a retail shop when they went for a shopping spree at David Jones and at Meyer. There was no seating area outside the shop my family members wanted me to wait. The shop was the attractively colourful ‘Spend-less Shoes’. After about forty minutes of waiting, I turned my attention to the shoes on display […]

Cabramatta, NSW

Cabramatta, New South Wales, Sunday 30th June 2019. Cabramatta is in the south-western part of Sydney, some 30 kilometers away, and it is easily accessible by train or bus from Sydney Central. From where we live in Hawkesbury River, north of Sydney Central, it took us a one-and-a-half hour to reach there by train via Strathfield Station. Cabramatta is essentially a Vietnamese township with its famous Vietnamese food, the most notable of which is the fresh round rice papers that we soak into hot water to make them soft and then fill them with vegetables and meat (chicken, beef, pork, […]
