Nerdle - December 2022

This is what we saw when we open up the nerdle website - six rows of eight cells. https://nerdlegame.com Each row represents each attempt we make to get the correct equation with one equal sign ( = ) and seven digits or arithmetic signs ( + - * /). To win a game we need to have the correct equation within the six attempts.

Today, 1st December 2022, we start with our usual pattern of a multiplication sign ( * ), an addition sign ( + ), a equal sign ( = ) in the sixth position, and five different digits.

3 * 4 + 5 = 1 7. The multiplication sign ( * ) is not in the solution. Neither are the digits 4, 5, and 7. Black represents ‘not in solution’. Purple represents in the solution but in a different position. Green represents the correct sign or digit in the correct position.

Next, we use what we now know as purple and add on those signs ( / ) and ( - ) and with the remaining digits to guess the solution. 1 3 + 2 - 9 = 6. We choose the equal sign at the seventh position as logic demands that without the multiplication sign in the solution, the answer is a low number, possibly only one digit. We reuse the purple digits 1 and 3 and added 2, 6 and 9 in the equation.

With digits 1, 2, 3, and 9 as purples and the two signs ( + ) and ( - ) also purpled, we can quite rightly guess at the possible solution: 9 - 1 0 + 3 = 2. All greens.
