I was born in Singapore in 1940. I am of Chinese descent, my father was an indented worker from Panyu, Guangzhou ( formerly Canton). My education was essentially English, British English during the colonial days. From young in Chinatown, Singapore, I can speak two Chinese dialects (Hokkien and Cantonese) and three languages (Chinese, English, and Malay).
