In this book, the concept of the afterlife is presented in a unique and imaginative way. In contrast, Chinese mythology portrays the afterlife as consisting of the eighteen levels of Hell, each of which is associated with a different type of punishment. In this belief system, souls are judged by the god of the underworld, Yama, and sent to one of the levels of Hell based on the deeds they committed during their lifetime. The concept of afterlife in this book is therefore quite different from the Chinese mythology of the eighteen levels of Hell. While both belief systems suggest that there is a continuation of existence after death, the nature of that existence and the way in which souls are judged and treated is vastly different.
