Simon n Garfunkel Songs

In June 2020, Giorgina Ramazzotti wrote an amazing story about the two boys Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel entitled “The extraordinary story of Simon & Garfunkel’s life-long feud”. https://www.smoothradio.com/artists/simon-garfunkel/feud-friendship-story-facts-fallout/
The two eleven-year old boys met for the first time in the year 1953 in Parsons High School, Queens, New York. The pair became best friends, and starred together in plays in School’s concert productions and eventually they decided to sing as a duo. However, throughout their sixty-over years of professional relationship, the two were known to have constant arguments with each other. What can be the reason(s) for such feuds.
Apparently, it started way back in their teenage years. You see, they recorded their first successful song together “Hey Schoolgirl” in 1957 when Paul Simon was sixteen years old, but when Paul Simon was approached to record two singles as a solo artist he forgot to tell Art Garfunkel and he was furious. https://youtu.be/Bsqt5jXFkYU He felt betrayed by his closest friend. This set in place a resentment and distrust between the two. You see, Paul Simon was a song-writer as well as a singer but Art Garfunkel was only a singer. Now we can understand why the misunderstanding and the basic mistrust found initially in Art’s attitude towards Paul.

“Most people look at me and wonder, “How could that guy be depressed?” asked Paul Simon, who was struggling with mental health for many years. “And I now feel that people were seeing a more accurate picture of me than I was. I eventually realised, ‘Jesus, all I’ve been looking at is this thin slice of pie that has got the bad news in it and I am disregarding the rest of the picture’.”
What caused the rift between Simon and Garfunkel? While still signed to Big Records as a duo, Simon released a solo single, ‘True or False’ under the moniker ‘True Taylor’. This, it transpired, upset Garfunkel who believed it to be a betrayal. This would be the start of the build-up of emotional tension that would end the duo in 1970.

Are they still friends? A spokesperson said: “Paul simply felt the material he wrote is so close to his own life that it had to be his own record. Art was hoping to be on the album, but I’m sure there will be other projects that they will work on together. They are still friends.”
Are they singing together now (Year: 2022)? The Simon and Garfunkel Story is currently touring across four countries and has thirty-nine upcoming concerts up to the year 2024.

Simon and Garfunkel songs contain beautiful lyrics and every lyric tells a story that can be a lesson for the youths of today. Why are the youths of today not listened to such brilliant songs sung from the heart and soul of these two singers, in perfect harmony. May we put our efforts together to ensure that the modern youths can listen to the songs from this pair of brilliant artists.
Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer (from The Concert in Central Park) Way back in the year 1980, both Paul Simon and Arthur (Art) Garfunkel was thirty-nine years old and they were both at their best, at their singing prime. We can listen to the clarity of the music that has not been matched by anyone else so far! https://youtu.be/6JUbFj0BIc4

Honestly, we do not know how to listen to these songs by this pair without being moved by them, every time we listen to them. Their lyrics contain the hope, the despair, the fatigue, the uncertainty, the determination, the joy, the sadness, the disappointment, the concern and the anxiety, the beauty and the awe and the tears and the weary optimism. They are all emotions present in every music the pair renders to us and we can feel every one of these emotions.

It is Art’s beautiful voice that makes every one of Paul’s song a classic. It does not matter what came between them but these two artists are destined to perform together.

Who’s who? In 2022, both eighty-one years old. Which one is Paul Simon and which one is Arthur Garfunkel?
A fan known simply as Ramaz had said this: “I remember when I first saw the New York Concert from YouTube. It was way back in 1987, when the Iron Curtain began to fall down and the Soviet TV channels started to show some music from the western countries. That was the first time I heard Simon & Garfunkel and I was 18 years old then. To say that I was absolutely amazed is to say nothing. It was the feeling I had never experienced before. It was like I had been living in a closed room with no windows and suddenly somebody opened just one window to show me the world. It is safe to say that my life is divided into two stages: before and after seeing this New York Concert.

Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams, I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light, I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
Then the sign said, “The words on the prophets are written on the subway walls
In tenement halls”
And whispered in the sound of silence

Bridge over Troubled Waters - https://youtu.be/WrcwRt6J32o
When you’re weary, feeling small; When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all, I’m on your side. Oh, When times get rough; And friends just can’t be found; Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down.
When you’re down and out, When you’re on the street, When evening falls so hard I will comfort you. I’ll take your part. When darkness comes And pain is all around, Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down.
Sail on silver girl, Sail on by. Your time has come to shine. All your dreams are on their way. See how they shine. If you need a friend I’m sailing right behind. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind.

I’ll rather be a sparrow than a snail, Yes, I would, if I could, I surely would … https://youtu.be/I5zKLtrX_vM
I’d rather be a sparrow than a snail
Yes, I would
If I could
I surely would
I’d rather be a hammer than a nail
Yes, I would
If I only could
I surely would
Away, I’d rather sail away
Like a swan that’s here and gone
A man gets tied up to the ground
He gives the world its saddest sound
Its saddest sound
I’d rather be a forest than a street
Yes, I would
If I could
I surely would
I’d rather feel the earth beneath my feet
Yes, I would
If I only could
I surely would

Scarborough Fair - https://youtu.be/-Jj4s9I-53g
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt (in the deep forest green)
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Tracing of sparrow on snow-crested ground)
Without no seams nor needle work
(Bedclothes the child of the mountain)
Then she’ll be a true love of mine
(Sleeps unaware of the clarion call)
Tell her to find me an acre of land
(A sprinkling of leaves)
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
(Washes the grave with silvery tears)
Between the salt water and the sea strands
(And polishes a gun)
Then she’ll be a true love of mine
Tell her to reap it with a sickle of leather
(Blazing in scarlet battalions)
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Generals order their soldiers to kill)
And gather it all in a bunch of heather
(A cause they’ve long ago forgotten)
Then she’ll be a true love of mine
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine
