Logical Code Cracker

Two number 14’s together at the end of a letter indicate to us that 14 is likely to be a ‘S’. The only word that fits the pattern nicely is LAWLESS. (1) # 25 = ‘L’ (clue given), # 6 = ‘A’, # 26 = ‘W’ (clue given), # 8 = ‘E’, and # 14 = ‘S’.
Our second word is the one from cell i9 down, which reads 14, ‘W’, 8, 8, 11. With # 14 being ‘S’ and # 8 being ‘E’, it is easy to deduce that the word in SWEET. (2) # 11 = ‘T’.

The third letter is ASSERT (3) in cell m8 downwards. # 6 = ‘A’; # 14 = ‘S’; # 8 = ‘E’, # 13 = ‘R’, and # 11 = ‘T’.

It is now easy for us to see the word EAGER (4) in cell i12 across, with # 7 being ‘G’. The word LATE (5) at cell g10 down is a bonus word for us. And, the word AGAINST (6) at a12 across is the next word to uncover, with # 6 = ‘A’; # 7 = ‘G’; # 15 = ‘I’, # 9 = ‘N’, # 14 = ‘S’, and # 11 = ‘T’.

Cell a1 down is JESTER (7), # 1 = J. Then cell c1 down has to be UTTER (8), # 3 = U.
Cell a2 across is ENACT (9), # 10 = C.

Cell a10 across is FUNGI (10) so # 23 = ‘F’. In so doing with # 23 = ‘F’, we have a bonus letter in cell d8 across - FEIGN (11).

Cell i4 across is CREAM (12), # 17 = M. Cell e7 down is DEFIANT (13) # 18 = D.
Cell a6 across is ROOM (14), # 4 is ‘O’. Bonus word in cell m1 down is GNOMES (15). Gnomes are legendary dwarves. # 24 is ‘V’ for DIVA (16) (cell j8 across) and for DIVERGE (17) (cell k7 down).

Cell g1 down is OBOE (18), # 12 = B. Oboe is a woodwind musical instrument with a double-reed mouthpiece, a slender tubular body, and holes stopped by keys. Cell g2 across is now BOURBON (19) which is a whisky drink. Cell k1 down is ABBEY (20) with # 20 = ‘Y’.
Cell i1 down is QUICKEN (21) - # 5 = ‘Q’; # 19 = ‘K’. There are two bonus words arising from K - KNEAD (22) and KAFTAN (23). Kaftan is a long belted tunic usually worn by Arabian men.

The last four alphabets are ‘H’, ‘P’, ‘X’, and ‘Z’. It is now easy to deduce that # 21 = ‘H’ for HUG (24) and CHEEK (25) - cell g6 down and cell f6 across. Cell c1 down is PARADOX (26) with # 2 = ‘P’ and # 22 = ‘X’. The last word is TRAPEZE (27), cell 4 across where # 16 = Z.
