There were four of us in this Tour of Japan from Friday 30th March 2018 to 17th April 2018. The four were: Lin, Francis, Molly and Yin. The tour was an exclusive one, organised by Janesco Travel Australia, just for the four of us. We travelled by Japan Air Lines Flight JL 772 Friday 30 March 2018 17:05 from Sydney to Tokyo and JL 771 Tuesday 17 April 2018 06:10 from Tokyo to Sydney.

Our Tour Guide was Mr. Hiro Tanaka, a soft spoken patient Japanese guide who accompanied the four of us for the entire sixteen days in Japan.

Upon arrival to Japan on the afternoon of the first day, we were driven to the Imperial Hotel Tokyo at The Imperial Hotel Tokyo 1-1 Uchisaiwai-cho 1 - come, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-8558 Ph: + 81 3 3504 1111.

The happy foursome were having a sake in one of the Japanese restaurants. I cannot remember which restaurant this was but we admire the way in which the dishes were presented to us in every Japanese restaurant. Small fishes, raw fishes, small octopuses and always with soft boiled white rice, the delight of all four of us.

We started with Tokyo, the capital, then on a train journey to Kyoto where we stayed for three nights. Then we travelled by train again to Hiroshima. After that we travelled back to Tokyo, stopping and staying at Kanazawa before returning to Tokyo.

Back in Tokyo, we visited the Disneyland Sea World and the famous CupNoodles Museum. We totally enjoyed yourselves before returning to Sydney for four more days before travelling back to our Auckland home.

On a personal note, the visit does enlightened me as to the reason why the Japanese, living in highly dense environment amongst hilly terrains without vegetation and very few arable land, had the ambitions of conquering countries (in World War II) in order to keep her economy going.

Many shades of colours of the cherry blossom flowers.

Day #2, Saturday 31st March 2018, in Tokyo, we took the Metro ride to Chidorigafuchi area and saw the mote of the Imperial Palace, and viewed the many shades pink and white of Cherry Blossoms.

We saw many shades of colours in so many cherry blossom flowers.

Cherry blossoms in Japanese are known as sakura and it would not be an exaggeration to say they are a national obsession. Different varieties of cherry blossoms bloom at different times, but most hit their peak in Tokyo at the end of March to the beginning of April.

Our first impressions of Japan were captures in these photographs here.

Kacho (Kacyo) is a high-class Japanese-style restaurant located near sightseeing spots like Ginza, Kabukiza Theater, and Tsukiji Fish Market. This is a new style of high-class Japanese eatery that boldly combines Japanese tradition and modern art in its interior decorations with matching traditional Japanese dishes, and an atmosphere that is fitting for all visitors. We relished in the exquisite flavours of fresh ingredients from the Tsukiji Market.  https://youtu.be/Mc1DMOR_0HQ

Imperial Palace: There is a mote around the Palace and we could not enter the Palace. We simply took an hour’s walk around the mote.

Asakusa Temple: Senso-ji Temple (Asakusa) - Tokyo - 浅草寺 - Also known as the Asakusa Kannon Temple, Senso-ji (or Sensoji) is one of Tokyo most popular and beloved Buddhist Temple! According to the legend, in the year 628 two brothers fished a beautiful statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, in the Sumida river. Thinking they disturb the resting place of Kannon, they decided to put back the statue back in the river, but, each time they try to do so, the statue magically returned to them. It is after many attempts that they understood that Kannon wanted them to erect a temple for her, and it was decided at that very moment to build what we now all know as the Senso-Ji temple.

For the remainder of the day, we followed our guide, Hiro, to Meiji shrine, Harajuku Promenade, where Tokyo’s old and new cultures meet. We then walked down the trendy Omotesando and Harajuku districts. We also visited the private art gallery, Nezu Museum, with a fine and beautiful garden.

Meiji Shrine (明治神宮, Meiji Jingū) is a shrine dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort, Empress Shoken. Located just beside the JR Yamanote Line’s busy Harajuku Station, Meiji Shrine and the adjacent Yoyogi Park make up a large forested area within the densely built-up city. The spacious shrine grounds offer walking paths that are great for a relaxing stroll.
