Peppers on the Point, Lake Rotorua

We checked in at 11:15am on Friday 17th. The unit we occupy is the upper floor unit above the main entrance of the Lodge and the balcony is directly above the porch where visitors to the Lodge step out of their limousines. The balcony, measuring 6.00m square directly faces Lake Rotorua.

This is the entrance door to the Unit. We have to climb up the stairs to the upper floor and once the door is opened, we are impressed by the size of the Unit and the welcoming entrance alcove on our right. The alcove has a floral wall painting and the figurings of three upstanding wolves all dressed up in their 1800 outfits complete with boots. One is carrying a lamp, another (the shortest) carrying a silver bowl above the head and the third carrying a rod. What do the three figurings, taken collectively, mean, anyone?

The floor plan, represented by colours, is shown below. We enter into the Unit’s huge bedroom, coloured green. We can see the breakfast and siting area, coloured red. We can see the waters of Lake Rotorua, right through the balcony area, coloured yellow.

A Study (blue) and a Bathroom/Shower/Toilet (orange) complete the floor plan. The total living area is estimated to be 160 square metres.

The photographs above show the view of Lake Rotorua from the balcony (coloured yellow in the floor plan). Mokoia Island can be seen in the distance in the photograph on the left.

Mokoia Island is a mysterious island located right in the heart of Lake Rotorua. It is steeped in cultural history of the Maori Race in New Zealand.  It is an iconic Rotorua landmark and its history dates back to 1350 AD.

The Island has many geothermal hot pools, including the world famous Hinemoas Pool. This beautiful and tranquil island features heavily in many local stories and historical events of Rotorua. Mokoia Island is a wildlife sanctuary and is home to a large number of endangered and protected species including 30 kiwi. The birds flourish in this predator-free environment. There are easy walking tracks in the island that allow us to explore with guides to provide stories that have passed on to the Maori people over the years.

This photograph shows the comforts of the breakfast area (coloured red on the floor plan shown earlier). There are three sections of this area. The far end is the dinning table with four chairs, all wood-crafted. In the middle section is a small wood crafted round table with two comfortable couch chairs, similarly wood crafted with thick cushions and textured fabrics. The last section is a sitting area with a three seated couch and another rounded coffee table.

A closer look at the dining table in the breakfast are shows three porcelain camels on the breakfast table. 仔细看看早餐的餐桌，早餐桌上有三只瓷骆驼。

The main bedroom area (coloured green on the sketch floor plan above) shows the grand-sized double bed and Lin is sitting down enjoying the splendour. We can see the entrance door, the entrance alcove and the entry to the bathroom, next to the alcove.

The photograph below shows the study area to the left hand side of the bedroom as we face the lake in front of us. It has a tea/coffee stand at the end of the area and a study table with an elaborate table lamp thereon.

The next photograph below is taken from the bathroom (coloured orange on floor plan) looking towards its entrance. The shower is on the left. The toilet and the bidet are on the right with the bath tub at the bottom right of the photograph. Looking out, we can see the TV mounted on the wall above the cabinet of drawers and in front of the double bed. The other door next to the TC is the door to the study (coloured blue on the floor plan).

The external view: The balcony above the entrance porch is the balcony of the upper floor unit that we stayed, The two windows with white framings to the left as we face the Lake are the windows of the breakfast area and the study. The other window (with no white framings) belongs to another next door unit. The second photography shows our group having pre-dinner drinks before proceeding to Gayle’s eightieth birthday dinner that evening, December 17th, 2021.

The Banquet Dinning Room was set for Gayle’s eightieth birthday party dinner by 5:30 pm. The Room is located on the Ground Floor of the Lodge. The Menu for the dinner was as shown below:

Gayle’s family members and Gayle’s sister’s family members were all seated as the dinner table as the party was about to start.

Just forgotten to mention that in the afternoon of Friday 17th we went to Rotorua’s famous Food Street (Tutanekai Street) for lunch at Leonardo’s Italian Restaurant. We passed the famous Lady Janes Ice Cream Parlour. After that we had a walk in the area.

Then we returned to Peppers for a rest.

Saturday 18th December 2021 saw us having lunch at The Factory Smokehouse and Grill along Old Taupo Road. https://www.thefactorysmokehouseandgrill.co.nz/menu

It was indeed a unique experience, eating there. We were met with a friendly greeting, and all of us were scanned in with our covid passports. Our table was close to the open kitchen and we did the takeaway orders . The onion rings were delicious, chicken wings and ribs, excellent. The burger was packed with meat and onions.

2021 年 12 月 18 日星期六，我们在旧陶波路的 The Factory Smokehouse and Grill 享用午餐。

In the evening of Saturday 18th we had a Christmas Dinner at Helen’s place (Gayle’s sister’s AirBNB) up the road from the Peppers Lodge. We enjoyed a very pleasant Christmas evening.

Sunday morning we packed our bags early at 9:00am and returned back to our homes in Auckland in the afternoon.

What an enjoyable sojourn!
