In English: Lee Kuan Yew is one of the most influential leaders in modern history. As Singapore’s first Prime Minister, he led the transformation of the country from independence in 1965 to a thriving modern city-state. But perhaps most importantly, Lee Kuan Yew was a master leader. He understands that building a successful nation requires more than just his own vision and hard work, and he has worked tirelessly to build a team that can help him achieve his Singapore goals.

Introduction · ·

★ “Founding Father of Singapore” Lee Kuan Yew’s latest autobiography。

★ The Chinese Simplified version was officially licensed for the first time.

★ Exclusive large number of pictures, showing the complete life of the author。

Throughout the memoir, the author unconsciously reveals the qualities that distinguish successful leaders from failed leaders: intelligence, dominance, self-confidence, knowledge, and mobility. Lee Kuan Yew is full of wisdom about Singapore’s place in the world, his judgment of the changing world, and so on. His dominance can be glimpsed in some small things. Mr. Lee’s self-confidence is mainly reflected in the fact that he is unwavering in his well-thought-out policies and is not influenced by others. His qualities dictate his calling-like influence and his extraordinary ability to perform miracles and foresee the future.

1954—1959 反殖民统治;

1960—1961 人民行动党党内斗争与分裂;

1963—1965 新、马合并与分裂;

1965 独立建国;

1965—1971 经济蓬勃发展;

Lee Kuan Yew was born with extreme sensitivity to the times, and when he was a trainee lawyer in a law firm, he was able to follow the trend and immediately formed the People’s Action Party, put forward a program of action in line with the actual wishes of the people, and obtained power through a tortuous process. As a genius leader, he was able to lead the people of Singapore to forge ahead and turn the crisis into a turning point, thus creating Singapore’s glorious achievements today and creating a proud “situation”:

1954-1959 Anti-colonial rule;

1960-1961 Intra-party struggle and division of the People’s Action Party;

1963-1965 Merger and split of Singapore and Malaysia;

1965 Independence of the state;

1965-1971 The economy boomed;

1980-present: Leadership shifts and continues to exert strong influence.

Elitism: Singapore is limited by a lack of land and natural resources, and can only rely on human resources. Lee Kuan Yew believed that government must be led by the country’s elite, and that the people who govern the country must be the best talents. It can be seen in the book that the people who submitted various reports for him and were appointed to set up special committees were extremely excellent figures: Wu Qingrui, Du Jincai, Huang Qingxin, He Pin, and so on.

    For example, the dozen special primary schools and special schools carefully built by Lee Kuan Yew and his elite team in the field of education for decades are also cultivating future elite teams for the country.

    Meritocracy: Lee Kuan Yew’s memoirs devote many pages to readers how he built Singapore into a meritocratic society in order to implement elitism, how he built a unique merit-oriented performance politics in the government system, and how to enable outstanding performers with outstanding performance and specialization to enter government agencies after studying abroad through the examination system, scholarship assistance, and further study abroad.

    Pragmatism: The memoir highlights Lee Kuan Yew’s strong pragmatic tendencies in his leadership behaviour. Everything should be useful and beneficial to Singapore’s development. This principle ensured that Singapore was able to avoid the interference caused by the ideological confrontation between East and West during the Cold War and to devote itself to the industrialization and modernization of the country.

    Asian Values: In his memoirs, Lee Kuan Yew emphasized, through various examples, such as the upbringing of his eldest son, Lee Hsien Loong, that Singapore only learns from advanced Western technology and management, and never from their decadence. He has always been committed to maintaining the roots and bloodline of his people through Chinese language and culture, so that the whole people can maintain the excellent Chinese virtues of perseverance and positive progress. He was a strong advocate of Confucianism and ethics, even from kindergarten and elementary school.

    The bilingual policy has greatly enhanced Singapore’s economy and national strength. This is not only a successful example of rejuvenating the country through education, but also a weapon that Mr. Lee Kuan Yew saw as early as the fifties and sixties to unite the hearts of the people!

    It is bilingual education that has a profound impact on the people of Singapore and has helped tremendously. Mastering English can open up a global vision, no language barrier, and smoothly deal with and do business with friends from different countries; Mastering their mother tongue strengthens their cultural identity and roots, especially their perseverance and self-improvement character and values, which will benefit them for life. This is Mr. Lee’s insight.

    China’s rise has led to a shift in the world economy to Asia, and mastering Mandarin is undoubtedly an advantage. The publication of this book not only gives everyone a comprehensive understanding of the government’s painstaking efforts in formulating the bilingual policy over the past 50 years, but also admires Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s extraordinary wisdom and forward-looking vision. His spirit of perseverance in learning Chinese is worthy of emulation and follow-up by the younger generation.

    ★ In addition, the book devotes considerable space to some of Lee Kuan Yew’s other ways of governing the country, such as establishing a clean and efficient government, maintaining racial harmony, opening up to the outside world, and education for all.
