October’s wordle

十月的 英语单词游戏 - WORDLE

We start off with the website: https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html On entry into the website we are faced with six rows of five blank cells, with the alphabet keypad, just like the above photo.

We have to start thinking of a five lettered word and enter this word in the first row as our first guess (or first attempt). We are allowed to have only six guesses (attempts) to be successful in this game. The best first guess is a word with the maximum number of vowels. As there is no word with five vowels, our best first word is one with four vowels - one of the following words:

  • ADIEU
  • AUDIO
  • AULOI
  • AUREI
  • LOUIE
  • MIAOU
  • OUIJA
  • OURIE
  • URAEI

We can find out the meanings of these words by googling them.

For the WORDLE game for 1st October 2022, we use the first word LOUIE which means “famous warrior”. We find that this word has two green cells, meaning that the letter ” L ” and the letter ” E ” are correct letters in the right positions. The other three letters ” O “, ” U “, and ” I ” are not in the solution.

Our next guess is the word LAPSE. The letter ” A ” is coloured yellow, meaning the letter ” A ” is a right letter but in the wrong position. “A” should therefore be either in the third or the fourth position in the solution word.

Our next guess, our third is LEAVE and this proofs to be correct - all letters in green.

Our collective score for the past 213 continuous games (a game a day) is shown below. The statistics for the current and maximum streaks are not correct. Our actual should be as follows:

The total number of continuous games played is 213. The total number of correct answers is 211, being the total numbers of all the correct attempts -

success upon the Second attempt = 4

success upon the Third attempt = 72

success upon the Fourth attempt = 99

success upon the Fifth attempt = 29

success upon the Sixth attempt = 7

Total number of successes within the six attempts = 4 + 72 + 99 + 29 + 7 = 211

There were only two breaks in our continuous games. One was at 32 games and the other was at 38 games. Our number of current streaks should therefore be 211 - 32 - 38 = 141.

First Attempt: A D I E U. Result: I is green (correct). E is yellow (right alphabet in wrong position. A, D, and U are not in the desired word.

Second Attempt: V O I C E. Result: I and E are greens. V, O, and C are not in the desired word.

Third Attempt: T H I N E. Result: T, I, N, and E are greens - Hoorah! H is not in the desired word.

Fourth Attempt: T W I N E. Result: All greens.

First Attempt: A D I E U. ” I ” is green. Second Attempt: T R I P S. ” I ” remains green. ” T ” and ” S ” are yellow. Third Attempt: S T I N G. All green.

The total number of continuous games played is 215. The total number of correct answers is 213, being the total numbers of all the correct attempts - (a) success upon the Second attempt = 4; (b) success upon the Third attempt = 73; (c) success upon the Fourth attempt = 100; (d) success upon the Fifth attempt = 29 (e) success upon the Sixth attempt = 7 The total number of successes within the six attempts = 4 + 73 + 100 + 29 + 7 = 213

There were only two breaks in our continuous games. One was at 32 games and the other was at 38 games. Our number of current streaks should therefore be 213 - 32 - 38 = 143.
