Purakaunui Falls - A wonderful waterfall sound in amazing native forest

Purakaunui Falls - 令人惊叹的原生森林中美妙的瀑布声.  这个瀑布位于原始森林旁，瀑布 20 米，横跨三层。它位于 Osaka 以南 17 公里处的 Purakaunui Falls Scenic Reserve，从停车场穿过山毛榉林只需步行 20 分钟。

This waterfall located by the native forest, cascades twenty metres over three tiers. It is seventeen kilometres south of Osaka in the Purakaunui Falls Scenic Reserve, a short twenty minutes walk from the car park through the beech forest.

11:34am Lake Waihola. Lake Waihola is a 640 hectares tidal freshwater lake located 15 km north of Milton in Otago, in New Zealand’s South Island. Its area is some 9 square kilometres, with a maximum length of 6 kilometres and a mean depth of only 0.75m. 

11:52am East Taieri. East Taieri is a small township, located between Mosgiel and Allanton in New Zealand’s Otago region. It lies on State Highway 1 en route between the city of Dunedin and its airport at Momona. It lies close to the southeastern edge of the Taieri Plain.

11:54am Fairfield; Saddle Hill. Fairfield is a suburb of Dunedin, New Zealand. Fairfield lies in rolling hill country, close to the slopes of Saddle Hill and Scroggs Hill. The name Fairfield was originally given as a descriptive name by early European settler William Martin to his farm property, located close to where the town now stands.

11:56am Green Island. Green Island is located 8 km south-west of the Octagon, in central Dunedin, with a 2013 population of 6,291. The borough of Green Island was historically distinct from the city. It lies in the Kaikorai Valley, and for many years was dominated economically by the Burnside meat-freezing works, which opened in 1883. Until 1989 it retained its own local council, which took in the suburbs of Abbotsford, Burnside, Concord and Sunnyvale. From the late 1970s the freezing works mostly handled venison. It closed completely in 2008, because of lack of throughput. Other industrial enterprises process or service primary produce – skins, hides, agricultural machinery or fertiliser. The suburb is named after tiny Green Island, off the coast.

Dunedin – This city lies between the wild coastline of the Otago Peninsula and a dormant volcano. The industrious Scots made their mark all over New Zealand, but nowhere is the Caledonian spirit more alive than in this city, Dunedin. The city center’s historic plaza is The Octagon. New Zealand’s most photographed building, Dunedin Railway Station, is nearby. Just up the tracks, venture back in time at the Toitū Otago Settlers Museum. The Otago Museum is just across town. We had visited the Larnach Castle the last time we were here in the year 2016. During that trip, we had also visited the peninsula is the Otakou Marae, the hub of Maori’s Ngai Tahu cultural life. We also visited the marvel of the mysterious Moeraki Boulders at Hampden.

12:30pm Finally, we arrived at Leith Valley Holiday Park, 103 Malvern Street, Dunedin for one night. We rested at the apartment there for the afternoon.

6:30pm We had dinner at Golden Harvest Restaurant (Chinese), 218 George Street, Central Dunedin. The meal was superb, especially the Peking Duck. That dish was special to us mainly because of the fact that there appeared to have a lot more duck meat when compared with the same dish served by other restaurants.

10:00am We checked out from Leith Valley Holiday Park at 10:00am and visited Otago Museum until 12:30pm and had Yum Cha lunch at Golden Harvest Restaurant before we drove at

2:15pm north along Motorways 1 and 38 on to the township of Twizel, staying for two nights at the ‘Mountain Chalets’.

5:49pm Waitaki Dam. This dam was built in the year 1934. The dam is 48 m high and 542 m long. Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, opened this dam on 27 October 1934, and it provided 30 megawatts of electricity, about half the mainland’s total capacity at that time. Modifications had boosted that capacity to 90 megawatts.

6:19pm At Omarama. Omarama is a small town at the junction of State Highways 8 and 83, near the southern end of the Mackenzie Basin, in the South Island of New Zealand. Omarama is in the Waitaki District, in the southern Canterbury region. The Ahuriri River is a short distance to the north of the township.

We went for our dinner at 7:30pm at the only Thai Restaurant there in the Town Centre - ‘Jasmine Thai’. My Masala Beef curry with steamed Jasmin rice was tasty, not too spicy and nice. The rest of the family members were also satisfied with their dishes, that included Pad Thai Chicken, Prawn Thai Salad, Tod Man Pla, Pad See Yiu, Fried Chicken in Cashew Nuts, and Vegetable Curry.

我们晚上七点半在镇中心唯一的泰国餐厅 - 'Jasmine Thai' 吃晚餐。我的马萨拉牛肉咖喱配蒸茉莉饭不太辣也很好吃。其他家庭成员也对他们的菜肴感到满意，包括泰式炒鸡、泰式虾沙拉、Tod Man Pla、Pad See Yiu、腰果炸鸡和蔬菜咖喱。
