Halleluyah!
I have known Judy Cheng since her arrival in New Zealand with her family (her husband Sunny, and two daughters, Jenny and Angel) in the mid-1980s. It is, therefore, heartening for me and my wife to welcome her into the Christian community. We attended her baptism ceremony at the Pakuranga Chinese Baptist Church at Ti Rakau Drive last Sunday, 2nd August 2020. Here is a record of the baptism event where she and six others were baptized by Pastor Albert Tang.

My name is Judy Cheng nee Chu. I suffered from mental depression for over four years. Before then I was happy, easy-going, and positive, enjoying life. After my illness, I worried about many little things and I felt stressed. There appeared to be too many problems to be solved. I also suffered from insomnia. My mind was not functioning well and I found that my life was becoming bleak and my attitude totally negative.
In 2018, I moved from West Auckland to my current address in the Eastern suburb of Botany. My daughter, together with my friends Tommy Tong and his wife, brought me to this church soon after I moved to East Auckland.
Towards the end of 2019, I went to an evangelism event at this church. At that event, it dawned on me that Jesus had died for our sins. I cried and I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart. After another full year of attending church, listening to the gospel, singing praises to the Lord, I found myself less stressful and I started smiling and laughing again. I now find my usual self and I am feeling happy again. I like to express my thanks to every one of you for your prayers.
I Heard, And I Acted.
Pastor Albert Tang then gave a short sermon on the meaning of Baptism. “Why do we have Baptism?” he asked the congregation.
Without waiting for an answer, he opened up his bible and read to the congregation the story about Philip and the baptism of the Ethiopian Eunuch found in Acts 8: 26 - 40.
Philip was told to go to Gaza, some 80 miles (about 130 km). He had to walk there. On the way, he met an Ethiopian eunuch. Here, the Ethiopian eunuch during those times were important officials in government, not necessarily be a real eunuch. When Pastor Philip found him, he was sitting on his chariot and reading the Book of Isaiah.
When the eunuch listened to Philip’s explanation of the passage of Isaiah, he decided that he would want to be baptized. When they came across some water on the way to Gaza, the eunuch made no hesitation to get baptized.
Pastor Albert Tang then elaborated on the action and reaction of both Philip and the Eunuch. Albert
To Philip, the word HEARD formed an acronym for Heeded (verses 27, 30); Eager (verse 30); At peace (verse31); Readiness (verse 35) and Dutiful (verse 38).
To the Eunuch, the word ACTED formed an acronym for Ardent (verse 27); Candid (verse 31); Tender (verse 31); Explicit (verse 36); Delight (verse 39).
C = Candid - 坦白(第31节);T = Tender - 温柔 (第31节);E = Explicit - 明确(第36节);D = Delight - 高兴(39节)。
Every one of the seven persons took turn to be baptised by immersion into the pool of water. When each person came out of immersion, the congregation sang the hymn “This is the Day”.
