Singaporeans speak English quite differently. Being used to the many dialects (like Cantonese, Hokkien, Malay, Indian, just to name a few) since birth, Singaporeans speak Singlish as a matter of convenience of essentially for speed of expression. As an example, instead of asking “what is your name?” Singaporeans simply point to you and say, “Name?” instead of saying “Your name please?” or “Cher, cher, cher!” instead of “teacher, or sir” to attract a teacher’s attention.

新加坡人说英语的方式完全不同。自出生以来就习惯了许多方言（如广东话、福建话、马来语、印度语等），新加坡人说新加坡英语是为了方便，主要是为了表达速度。例如，不要问“你叫什么名字？”新加坡人只是指着你说，“名字？”而不是说“请问你的名字？”或“雪儿，雪儿，雪儿！”而不是“老师或先生”来吸引老师的注意力。

Singaporeans and Malaysians are world champions in this form of the English Language - Singlish.

Ah Huat and an Englishman were asked to make a meaningful story using our first ten numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

The Englishman tried very hard but could not find an answer. Then the Englishman turned to Ah Huat and very confidently said, “If I cannot do this, I am very sure that this would be way beyond your ability.”

Ah Huat thought for a while and then this was what he came up with ……….

“1 day I went 2 climb a 3 outside a house to peep. The couple in the house saw me. So, I panic and 4 down. The man rushed out and wanted to 5 with me. I ran until I fell 6 and threw up. So, I ran into a 7-eleven and grabbed some 8 to throw at him. Then I took a 9 and tried to stab at him. 10 God he ran away.

” And 10, I put the 9 back and paid for the 8 and left 7-eleven. Next day I called my boss and told him I was 6. He said 5, tomorrow also no need to come back 4 work. He also asked me to go and climb a 3 and jump down! I don’t understand. I am so nice 2 him but I don’t know what he 1.”

The Englishman fainted!
