A Chaotic Game
I have recently opted for 5-minute chess blitz games instead of the 10-minute ones, from the chess.com http://chess.com website. The reason is that I would like to simulate real-life decision making moments during an emergency.
Yes, this is challenging! I saw my individual rating dropped from around 900 down to 600 within a week of playing such 5-minute games. The main reason why I lost most of such 5-minutes blitz games is the fact that I have not been able to think fast enough and the 5-minute time limit per move beats me, not my opponents. Of course, because of the short time span for each move, there are also careless mistakes made.
Watch this 5-minute game: https://youtu.be/7hpgMOt0OXY. If you find the movements too fast, just rewind and watch again … and again.
Below is the analysis of one of such 5-minutes blitz games I played recently. Please note that, because of the stress of the time constraints, both of us had missed a lot of check-mated moves.
The final move of Black Rxd1# should have been anticipated by White as a locked-down King had no room to move. White’s earlier move of Qf6 was really a BIG Blunder.
This game can be classified as a wild and chaotic game. Both players had just as many chances to win. Both players had 12 moves each that were classified in the range from ‘Good’ to ‘Brilliant’. White had made 6 blunders compared to Black’s 5 and this 1 move difference saw Black winning the match.
