The 1918 Pandemic: 1918
History has the habit of repeating itself. This time it has taken 102 years for the Coronavirus to reappear in the form of the current COVID-19 pandemic. In 1918 the earlier version of this virus came to this world and killed at least 50 million people. That influenza pandemic was known as the Spanish Flu. 500 million people were affected by the Spanish Flu. This number was about a third of the world’s population then.
The Spanish Flu lasted from January 1918 right through to December 2020, a period of three years.

The biggest lesson to be learned about the 1918-1920 Spanish Flu is not the flu itself, nor the cure that eventually developed in a vaccine we call today as ‘flu vaccine’. It is the fact that fake news or lies were told, or rather that the real facts were not told to the public. Watch the next series of three lectures on this very danger, known collectively as the Conspiracy of Silence.

Now let us watch another documentary video of the Spanish Flu https://youtu.be/UDY5COg2P2c Historical documentary about 1918 Swine Flu or Spanish Flu and the role of World War I in spreading the disease among troops making it into a worldwide plague of devastating proportions. The video covers where it began, how and where it spread, the symptoms, how it affected America and whether it could happen again.

Social distancing won’t just save lives. It might be better for the economy in the long run.

After watching all the above videos, we have to be thankful that New Zealand is moving in the right direction in advocating the “Stay Home, Stay Alive, Saves Lives” policy.
And then you ask: Yes, but how much damage will such a course of action do to our economy? Well, we have to treasure our lives. If we survive this COVID-19 crisis, the NZ economy will survive too. In comparison to the state of affairs of other countries, Kiwis should shout out “Praise the Lord and we pray that New Zealand can be of help to others in the world when COVID-19 finally leaves us for good. Amen.”
