Auckland City Apartment 奥克兰市中心的公寓

My name is Suki. I am a foreign student from Japan studying at the Auckland University and living in an apartment along Wakefield Street, in Auckland City. I can walk to the University in ten minutes. My friend, Ami, who stays with me is even luckier. Her classes at the Auckland University of Technology is just two doors away from our front door.

This is a great location.  Walking down Wakefield Street towards Queen Street, we can get to the Auckland Central Library, and just further down is the delicious BBQ Duck Cafe at 350 Queen Street, opposite the Aotea Square at the heart of Auckland City, behind the Auckland City Hall.

The Auckland Art Centre and the quaint shops along Lorne Street across the road from the Central Library are worthwhile destinations to visit. Public buses travel along Queen Street, Albert Street, and Hobson Street, to connect the City Centre with the rest of Auckland City’s nearby suburbs of Newmarket, Parnell, Ponsonby, and Hearn Bay. The buses also connect the city to the residential suburbs of Birkenhead and Albany on the north shore across the Harbour Bridge and of Mission Bay, Remuera, and St Heliers, to the East of the City.

Further along Queen Street, towards the waterfront, there are (1) the Central Train Station of Auckland (2) the Maritime Museum and (3) the Ferry Terminal Building. Both Ami and I often take the ferry to the nearby island of Waiheke where we tour the vineyards there. We also take the train to go to other residential suburbs in South Auckland’s Manukau City and in the Henderson Shopping Centre in West Auckland. Oh, before I forget to mention this: Auckland’s underground train service is currently expanding and is scheduled to complete by the end of the year 2023, at which time, Auckland Central Business District (CBD) will be a pleasant place to be in because of the presence of designated pedestrian precincts.

Before the arrival of COVID-19, Ami and I used to visit the nearby cinemas. There are three cinemas within walking distances from us - the Odeon Cinema at 306 Queen Street, next to Aotea Square, the Event Cinema along Elliott Street and the Academy Cinema at Lorne Street, next to the Central Library. We also visited life performances like “Le Miserables” and “The Sound of Music” at the Civic Theatre, located at the corner of Queen Street and Wellesley Street.

Our eighth floor apartment unit along Wakefield Street (in a block known as the Sapphire) is comfortable with two good sized bedrooms both with windows overlooking the Auckland University of Technology’s Food Court Block, a lower two-storey building.

My family has considered buying the apartment for me but funds going out from my home country are difficult and so I have to wait.
