Don’t Look Up 不要抬头看

Astronomer Professor Dr. Randall Mindy and his PhD Doctorate Student Kate Dibiasky found that an orbiting comet within the solar system is on a direct collision course towards planet Earth. They report this fact to their academic head who submits this finding to the authority. They go about telling their colleagues and friends that this comet, the size of Mt. Everest, if allowed to proceed on, will kill all of us and planet Earth will be totally destroyed.

With the help of Dr. Teddy Oglethorpe, the Head of planetary defence at NASA, Dr. Randall Mindy and Kate Dibiasky, go on a media tour that takes them to see the US President Janie Orleans and her Chief of Staff, Jason Orleans as well as having air time at The Daily Rip, a much-watched morning show hosted by Brie Eventee and Jack Bremmer.

However, no one really appears to care about the coming disaster. President Janie Orleans wants the news to be broadcasted in the best possible way to ensure that she will be reelected for a second term. Her financial supporters led by Sir Peter Isherwell, the founder of tech company BASH, are only interested in the possible mining of the huge amount of rare minerals, worth easily few millions of billion dollars, that their drones found on the comet. The two TV Hosts have different views on the news. Whilst both have the common wish that the way they present the two astronomers - Dr. Randall Mindy and Ms. Kate Dibiasky - will boost their show’s ratings, Brie Event has a further lust for Dr. Randall, wanting to steal him away from his wife.

With only six months until the comet makes impact with planet earth, Sir Peter Isherwell is busy monitoring satellites that his team uses to divert the direction of the comet. Alas, this has come too late.

Right on the very last two days of planet Earth’s destruction, Sir Peter Isherwell and President Janie Orleans are at the BASH’s office, controlling the launching of several satellites that aim to divert the course of the Comet. When it becomes clear that they are loosing the battle, they slip away from BASH’s monitoring screens. Everyone then senses the inevitable and head for their respective homes. Only Jason is left behind as apparently his mother, the President, has, in her panic forgotten to bring her son along to a 2,000-beds sleeping satellite heading into space. On the bus to the satellite launching station, President Janie Orleans rings Dr. Randall Mindy to ask if he and his wife can join her in her satellite heading into outer space for safety. Dr. Randall Mindy refuses the offer. Instead, he remained behind to have a last dinner together at his house with his wife and friends. His friends who gathered together include Kate Dibiasky, Dr. Teddy Oglethorpe and several other supporters.

The story ends with President Orleans crowd landing on another planet some twenty two thousand years later. Immediately upon departing the satellite the entire crowd are attacked and consumed by prehistoric dinosaurs.
