This Cantonese drama highlights unexpected events that happened to three good friends from the poorer class of new Chinese migrants who used to live in the same tenement block in Wanchai, Hong Kong in the decades of the 1960s and 1970s. The paths these three friends took were intertwined with with heaps of misunderstandings, resulting in the breaking up of their friendships. Twenty-five years later, in their middle ages, they became bitter enemies. Only in their old ages were they re-united as friends as the mysteries clouding their friendships were slowly unveiled.

Kuang Zhili was one of the three friends. He graduated as a lawyer at the local University on a Government Scholarship. He started off as a decent down-to-earth lawyer defending the interests of the poor and down trotted. He had an awe-inspiring justice at heart. But, when his fiancee committed sucide, he was all bent to seek the reason why she had wanted to end her life. Kuang Zhili’s friend Chen Qicong was not interested in studies while at school. He was spoilt by his parents. He was a school dropout at fifteen and worked at various odd jobs - newspaper vending, shoe-shine boy, labourer, security officer, and hawker’s assistant. He was later involved in drugs and other illegal activities. He finally died from a gun shot of his other common friend with Kuang, named He Sheng. He Sheng graduated from secondary school and entered the Police Academy. He became a police and he rose to the rank of a Police Superintendent through his hard work for the Police Force. Lawyer Kuang Zhili and his other friend, Police Superintendent He Sheng worked together in many criminal cases before the Courts.

匡智立的朋友陈启聪在校期间对学习不感兴趣。他被父母宠坏了。他 15 岁就辍学了，做过各种零工——卖报、擦鞋的男孩、工人、保安员和小贩的助手。他后来参与了毒品和其他非法活动。他最终死于与匡的另一个共同朋友何胜的枪杀。何升中学毕业，考入警察学院。他成为一名警察，并通过为警察队努力工作，晋升为警司。邝志立律师和他的朋友、警司何胜在法庭上共同处理了多起刑事案件。
