Waiata 毛利歌曲

The Maori Language Week is coming to an end this Sunday, 19th September. Isn’t it strange that in New Zealand, we have a “Maori Language Week” to encourage New Zealanders to express themselves just for one week a year in the language of the indigenous race? Shouldn’t we in New Zealand be speaking and communication in the language of the land, in Maori?
Ka mutu te Wiki o te Reo Maori a te Ratapu, Hepetema 19. I a Niu Tireni, he “Wiki Reo Maori” ta matou hei akiaki i nga tangata o Niu Tireni ki te korero Maori mo te wiki kotahi ia tau. Kaore tenei e miharo?
Here in this page, we are encouraging every Kiwi (all those who are holding New Zealand passports and those who are New Zealand permanent residents) to stay connected with Maori world by learning to sing the following five Maori ‘Waiata’s .

Anei i tenei whaarangi, e akiaki ana matou i nga Kiwi katoa (nga hunga katoa e pupuri ana i nga uruwhenua o Niu Tireni me nga taangata noho tuuturu o Niu Tireni) kia hono tonu ki te ao Maori ma te ako ki te waiata i nga waiata ‘Waiata’s e rima e whai ake nei.
在此页面中,我们鼓励每个新西兰人(所有持有新西兰护照的人和新西兰永久居民的人)通过学习唱以下五个毛利人’Waiata’s 来与毛利人世界保持联系。
Waiata # 1: Whakaaria Mai https://youtu.be/g4STZc1LTDU

Whakaaria Mai (How Great Thou Art) Lyrics
Whakaaria mai
Tōu r peka ki au.
Tiaho mai
ra roto i te pō.
Hei kona au
titiro atu ai.
Ora, mate
hei au koe noho ai.
English Translation
Show
your cross to me.
Let it shine
there in the darkness.
To there I
will be looking.
In life, in death
let me rest in thee.
Sing these words twice; first to the tune of the verse of How Great Thou Art, then to the tune of its chorus.
Or at a mixed Pakeha/Maori gathering, sing the verse in English, then the chorus in Maori.

Waiata # 4: He aha te hau. https://youtu.be/TzUVHcasSK4
He aha te hau e wawara mai
He tiu, he raki
Nāna i a mai te pū-pū-tarakihi ki uta, ki uta
E tikina atu e au te kōtiu
Ko ia te pou, te pou whakairo
ka tū ki Waitematā
I ōku wairangi ee Kōkiri!
What is that murmuring sound, Upon the north wind?
That cast my paper nautilus ashore?
Which I plucked from the north wind, And thus claimed?
It is the carved pillar that stands in the Waitematā Harbour
That I see in my distressed state.
Waiata # 5: Tutira mai nga iwi https://youtu.be/HdNbBgGoRvs

This is a song of unity, with the repeated chorus of “tātou tātou e” meaning “all of us”. The song is often used by New Zealanders in times when standing together and supporting each other is appropriate. The current period of VOVID-19 Delta outbreak is one of such times and the song is worth the while singing together. The last time this song was sung to show support of the New Zealand Muslim community was the period after the Christchurch mosque attack.
Tūtira mai ngā iwi; Tātou tātou e. Tūtira mai ngā iwi; Tātou tātou e.
Whai-a te marama-tanga; me te aroha - e ngā iwi!
Ki-a ko tapa-tahi, Ki-a kotahi rā. Tātou tātou e.
Sing it all a second time. Then finish with… Tā - tou, tā - tou E!! Hi aue hei !!!
| The English Transaction: Line up together, people All of us, all of us. Stand in rows, people All of us, all of us. Seek after knowledge and love of others - everybody! Be really virtuous And stay united. All of us, all of us. Sing it all a second time. All of us, all of us!! Hi aue hei !!! |

Tutira mai nga iwi, toru wha Tutira mai nga iwi (The people are standing in rows)
Aue Tatou tatou e (All of us)
Taranga titaha Tutira mai nga iwi (The people are standing in rows)
Aue Tatou tatou e (All of us)
Whaia Whaia te maramatanga (Seek after knowledge)
Me Te Me te aroha e nga iwi (And fellowship all people) Kia ka tapatahi (Think as one) Kia kotahi ra (Act as one) Tatou tatou e (All of us)
Puritia ki a mau, hi aue hi
