China after WTO entry 加入世贸组织后的中国

There were huge shakeups in many factories and companies of The People’ Republic of China after the country joined membership of the World Trade Organisation in the year 2001. The service sector was liberalised and foreign investments were allowed. Restrictions on retail, wholesale and distribution ended. Banking, financial services, insurance and telecommunications in China were also opened up for foreign investment.

The story here concerns two foreign companies, one from the Seth (China) Technology Co. Ltd from the United States of America and the other, SC Investments (Osaka) Ltd. from Japan, both companies competing for the possible joint venture of a Chinese state-owned electronic factory in Jiang Zhou, Suzhou Industrial Park, near Shanghai 江州 上海 known as Jiang Zhou Shi Jing Tong Factory.

这里的故事涉及两家外国公司，一家来自美国的赛思（中国）科技有限公司，另一家是来自日本的 SC Investments (Osaka) Ltd.，两家公司都在争夺一家中国公司可能的合资企业。江州电子厂位于苏州工业园区，靠近上海江州上海，被称为江州石精通厂。

The four main characters to the story are:

Qiao Li 乔丽 is a young lady working for Seth (China) Technology Co. Ltd. She is a naive beginner in the office, always innocent, simple minded, and willing to learn new ideas. In this story, she has been made a pawn to many office political situations but miraculously she manages to survive every attempt in the various evil plots of her seniors. The story starts with her been promoted to be the Assistant to the General Manager and ends some three years later as the wife of a factory manager.

Wang Guilin 王贵林 is the factory manager that wins the heart of young Qiao Li. He is the factory manager of the local Chinese electronics factory Jiang Zhou Shi Jing Tong Factory who is a straight-forward talker who leads with his heart, for the benefits of all parties, especially for the workers.

陆帆君 Frank Lu was the Sales Director of SC Investments (Osaka) Ltd at the start of the story. He had a different approach from his Japanese boss Tu Jing 土井 regarding the possible acquisition of the Chinese factory. He resigned over this issue and later joined the opposition Seth (China) Technology Co. Ltd, also as the Sales Director when a close friend from the same US University and also a former colleague was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of that firm. He is often in conflict with protecting his firm’s interest or his loyalty to his country, China. His basic aim is to help China in modernising the country’s technology with his US education and training.

陆帆君 Frank Jun 在故事开始时是 SC Investments (Osaka) Ltd 的销售总监。关于收购中国工厂的可能性，他与他的日本老板土井有不同的做法。他为此辞职，后来加入了反对派赛思（中国）科技有限公司，并在同一美国大学的密友和前同事被任命为该公司的首席执行官时担任销售总监。他经常与保护公司利益或对中国的忠诚发生冲突。他的基本目标是通过他在美国的教育和培训帮助中国实现国家技术的现代化。

Yu Zhide 于志德 was a classmate of Wang Guilin in school. He then studied economics and political science at University and became a university lecturer specialising in economical reform of China. He visited Chinese factories on behalf of his father-in-law who was the Mayor of the Jing Zhou province. Later, Yu Zhide was made the Chief Executive Officer of the Jiang Zhou Shi Jing Tong Electronic Factory. This factory was given a Government grant of 700 million Yuan (approximately US$ 108 million) to modernise. The temptation of gaining a portion of this sum was great, not only to the two foreign companies bidding for the supply of both computer hardware and software to assist the Electronic Factory, but also to Yu Zhide.
