Recollections 回忆 maumahara

Ever so often, we look at the photographs in our photo album and we wonder “Where can this be?” or “What was the occasion?” or “Who else was with us?”

Let me just take the three photos below as illustrations.

This photograph came from the Cloud that holds ‘My Photos’. I have completely forgotten where I was, when was this taken, and who else was with me at the time.

It really took me a long time to reflect on these questions.

Then, after a good half-day thinking about this with this picture constantly focused in my mind, I finally got the answers.

Where? Onboard the P & O cruise liner Aria on the seventh and eighth decks where we book for events on the ship.

When? Sometime earlier this year on a four-night cruise to Hawkes Bay and back to Auckland - Actual date? still searching for an answer from my memory.

With whom? Yes, with wife Lin, son Will, daughter-in-law Sharon and grandson Blake.

I am not too sure when this photo was taken. Suffice it to say that the photo can be taken any day at the end of dinner, in the kitchen at the sink. Yes, it is wonderful to be reminded that we have the habit of leaving things untidy, to the annoyance of my wife.

I remember the faces - Alice (formerly Alice Teh but I have forgotten her married surname) and Mr. Shim Kah Seong - with us. I remember the place - a foodcourt in Orchard Road, Singapore. I remember the time, sometime last year when we (Lin and I) visited our second daughter. I have not seen the two for a long time, over forty years at least. Alice was the secretary of my former boss at the Housing and Development Board and Mr. Shim was then the Administrative Manager in the same office.

Those were the days, my friends, and I was young then. At that age, I thought those happy days would never end.
