Love’s Lies - A Chinese Drama worth viewing

The story in this drama is both interesting and intriguing. It is a pity that the drama has not as yet been translated into the English Language. Neither is there any English subtitle for any of the episodes.

St the time of posting this, the drama is still ongoing in Beijing television, two episodes a night. As at the evening of 6th May, episode 30 has been broadcasted. According to the internet previews, the last episode in this series is 44.

The Plot:

The drama centres on six main characters as follows:

(1) Actor Luo Jin as Police undercover agent Jin Yuan.

(2) Actress Pan Zhi Lin as Tang Dou Dou, the innocent lover of Jin Yuan who was unwittingly dragged into the activities of drug dealing and drug ‘Iced Drug’ manufacturing.

(3) Actor Alvin Cao as Police Detective Qiao Liang, whose blunt and direct investigative methodology lands him in trouble in many occasions.

(4) Actor Fu Meng Bo as Shao Yang, the assistant to Jin Yuan.

(5) Actress Lu Xing Chen as Huang Xin Yue, a doctor who is the daughter of a Police Detective Head.

(6) Actor Morning Chang as Cai Bing Kun, the head of the Evil Drug Gang, who invented the receipt for ‘Iced Drug’ that looks like diamonds.

The story begins with the delivery of a parcel containing the killer ‘Iced Drug’ to Dou Dou, an office female worker, from her former boy friend, Jin Yuan, who ran away from their wedding seven years ago. It revolves around a dangerous Evil Drug Gang and an undercover agent who works from the inside in an effort to take it down. This undercover agent of the police is Jin Yuan.

Police Detective Qiao Liang has been following the parcel and of course he races to try to arrest Dou Dou. However, Dou Dou, in the course of running away from Qiao Liang, races into the office of Jin Yuan who runs a legitimate business of selling antiques, sculptors and paintings.

Jin Yuan has been suspected of involving himself in the crime of the Evil Drug Gang - into drug trafficking and money laundering.

Dou Dou takes it upon herself to help Jin Yuan turn over a new leaf, oblivious to his real identity as an undercover agent from the Police Department. She wants to save the drug-dealing, money-laundering boyfriend who has abandoned her. But is he really the one who needs to be saved?

Jin Yuan lies to Dou Dou in order to protect her, even during the period when he supposedly was abandoning her. Jin Yuan’s worst nightmare comes true when the very woman he tried to save is caught in the middle of his drug war with the Evil Drug Gang. As he fights the crime ring he has infiltrated and dodges the law that considers him a criminal, Jin Yuan now also has to deal with his lover, Dou Dou, who does not know who he really is and is convinced that she can get him back on the “right” path.

He has to keep lying to save the woman he loves but, sometimes, even love’s lies are not strong enough to conceal the truth.

Highlight from Episode 30:

This is Shao Yang, the trusted assistant to the hero of the story Jin Yuan, who unfortunately was injected with the drug by the Evil Drug Gang. He he had to depend upon the Gang to supply him with that special ‘Iced Drug’ to survive. By dishing out such ‘Iced Drugs’, the Gang managed to make use of him for inside information on Jin Yuan’s activities. But, did Jin Yuan suspect anything?

Before you turn on to Episode 2, I’ll let you on to a little secret. My Mandarin speaking and my Mandarin vocabulary including my Pinyin’s have greatly improved since I watch Chinese dramas from two years ago.
