Joy Yeo - A Young Talented Artist
INTRODUCTION:
Joy Yeo is ten years old. She studies with her classmates in Primary Four this year (2017) in an all girls Singapore School - Singapore Chinese Girls School. She has displayed a natural talent in freehand drawings. She has other talents as well but those are different stories, different times.
“Besides drawing pictures like these, what do you do every day?” I ask. “Well, …” she ponders, and then “I love my school subjects too, like English and Maths. And I love to dance, to swim and to play the piano. But really, I am spending my spare time sketching.”
“You mean you have so much time?” I press on. “Of course,” she replies “and I need to help Mum and Grandma to take care of my younger brothers too.”
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” is my final question. “I don’t know,” she answers and that is typical of a ten-year-old student, right?
Let us see some of her beautiful artistic works.
“I draw this to depict my nature. When someone wants a fight or is in an angry mood, I smile and fly away. No, I am not avoiding the issue. I am just letting my angry friend cool down before we can talk sensibly.”
“Turn your head to your left. Yes, my Pokejoy team members are always with me to cheer me up when I feel sort of ‘down’. ‘Start dabbing,’ they say and we dab for the joy of it. Thanks, Pokejoy team members.”
“My fireworks contribution to Singapore’s National Day recently.”
“These Legendary Birds have their stories to tell us too. They are all inside my head. I shall relate these to you one day soon.”
“Charizards, they were here in Singapore once upon a time, long before Raffles landed at the Singapore River.”
“My Avatar.”
“My Pokejoy team members are friends of Ash’s team members and we go out together often to see how we can help to save our planet from extinction.”
