The first World Masters Games was held in Toronto, Canada, in 1985. Since then the Games had taken place many cities including Brisbane, Australia in 1994, Portland, Oregon, USA in 1998, Melbourne in 2002, Edmonton in 2005 and Sydney in 2009.
The Games has been popular with retired professional athletes and former Olympic champions with more than 350 past Olympians expected to take part in Auckland from 21st to 31st April 2017.
