On Millennials
The millennials are collectively referred to as Generation Y. They are people born between early 1980’s to early 2000’s, now (2017) between the ages of 17 to 37.

No prize for you but at least you know what the famous young speaker’s, Simon Sinek’s opinion is on this topic, the millennials and you can perhaps deal with this generation of people more efficiently.
Simon Sinek was in town (Auckland) only the last week, giving his inspiration talk to business leaders at the Langham Hotel, Symonds Street.
But, who is Simon Sinek, you may well ask?
Simon Sinek is a 43-year-old British author and motivational speaker. The three most popular books he had written are:
- Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action. Published in 2009.
- Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t. Published in 2014.
- Together Is Better: A Little Book of Inspiration. Published in 2016.
According to Simon, the four basic characteristics of millennials are:
(a) they all grew up with poor parenting strategies - they are spoilt as they are praised by their parents even when they did badly in schools “Good that you have tried your best, dear, and here is your reward (a badge of some sort or a holiday in Wonderland;
(b) they all grew up in a world of fast-moving technology - where they find that they are not as good as what their parents say they are;
(c) They are impatient as they are used to instant gratification and they refuse to admit defeat when things get tough;
(d) They are all dealt a bad hand in corporate environments as there is a total lack of good leaderships in the corporate world.
